Infection with SARS-CoV-2 causes a clinical syndrome named COVID-19, which presents with a spectrum of symptoms (ranging from asymptomatic to severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and even death). Although all age groups are susceptive, neonates seem to be partially spared and have a more favourable course. However, over the progression of the pandemic, symptomatic neonatal COVID has become an emerging presentation within the newborn population. Different systematic reviews and meta-analyses have investigated the wide spectrum of clinical presentations of neonatal COVID and its primary prevention, but few have commented on the secondary prevention and management of the varying presentations of neonatal COVID. \\n\\nA thorough and systematic review of the current literature concerning the management and screening of both preterm and term infants with COVID-19 with severe symptoms will advance our understanding of the disorder and thereby promote the development of more effective practices. Implementing standardized practice guidelines for infants with severe COVID-19 will further optimize their care.
